[Ppnews] Update on Iowa Grand Jury Resisters

Today is a sad and also righteous day as two of my friends from Minneapolis
have been locked up by the state indefinitely as a result of their refusal
to cooperate with the Federal Grand Jury they have been subpoenaed to
testify under. I particularly want to draw attention to the statement of my
dear friend and comrade Scott De Muth, at the bottom of this email. Scott is
a Dakota organizer who has been struggling in recent years to work towards
decolonization of Dakota Homelands and people, which have remained under
illegal and genocidal occupation since 1862, when Dakota people became
illegal within their ancestral territories, and were removed & exiled, with
bounties on their heads, by the state of Minnesota and the United States
Federal Government. I think it is important to situate the current "green
scare" persecution of activists and organizers targeted for eco and animal
defense within the long history of government persecution of movements for
liberation led by indigenous people & people of color, and by all people &
communities oppressed by the many interlocking systems we survive, resist,

Today, Minneapolis-based activists Carrie Feldman and Scott DeMuth refused
to testify in front of a grand jury in Davenport, Iowa, and were found to
be in contempt of court. They were immediately handcuffed and hauled off
by U.S. Marshalls. According to District Judge John Jarvey, who presided
over the contempt hearings, both will remain incarcerated until they agree
to testify. The state can lock them up for the duration of the grand
jury--another 11 months.

For reasons all too familiar and valid to anyone who has followed the
escalation of Green Scare repression, both Carrie and Scott refused to
cooperate with the grand jury by providing information about themselves
and their comrades. We stand in solidarity with them for refusing to be
