April 17th Marks 37 Years in Solitary Confinement for Albert Woodfox
and Herman Wallace
The year is 2009 under the leadership of President Barack Obama where
newly appointed Attorney General Eric Holder has just said that those
responsible for carrying out torture in Guantanamo will not be
charged with these crimes.
In Louisiana, Albert Woodfox and Herman Wallace still sit in solitary
confinement charged with a crime they did not commit. Albert's
conviction has been overturned and a magistrate has recommended the
vacating of Herman's sentence as well. At ages 67 and 62, Herman and
Albert have been in single cells for 23 hours a day for the last 37 years.
