Thursday, March 30, 2006 Linda Backiel, Lawyer for Antonio Camacho Negrón

Last night I met with Antonio. He is in solitary
confinement because he refused to answer
questions that are made of new prisoners. He is
not receiving his medicines and his cell is
flooded. He is not being given toilet paper.

As always his spirits are high. I understand
that his arrest on the afternoon of the first day
of the National Congress for Decolonization is
due to a desire to repress those efforts. He is
the national organizer of the Congress and
dedicated it to the political prisoners just
before being arrested around 4:00 p.m. in a street in Río Piedras.

Antonio declared that "The Congress that is
taking place simultaneously in several
universities and colleges throughout the country
by all anti-colonial sectors has received
tremendous support and the government of the
United States is making its move to once again
attempt to repress the desires of our people to regain its sovereignty."

He reiterated that his stand in the towards the
courts is the same as always: he does not
recognize their jurisdiction. "The Federal Court
is not in Puerto Rico to meet out justice, but to
kidnap the sovereignty of the people of Puerto
Rico and to impose the expansionist imperialist
policies of the United States. What is good for
the hunter is not good for the hunted."

Antonio also emphasized the fact that just before
his arrest by the same federal agents that
arrested him at the Congress, he had just asked
all those present, not for a minute of silence,
but a minute of applause for Filiberto Ojeda Ríos.

It is important to note that a support picket for
Antonio was organized on Saturday April 1st in
front of MDC Guyanabo. The organizers will
continue organizing pickets every Saturday until
Antonio is released from jail!!
